Dairy Research Foundation 2019 Symposium
The Dairy Research Foundation Symposium was held in Bega, NSW on the 10-11 July 2019 at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre and Cedar Grove Farm, Angledale. It was a successful event and was well attended on both days. A high percentage of the delegates thought that topics covered on the day were mostly relevant to their businessl.
The two day format was kept as per the last two years and the Industry Forum was incorporated with the DRF Symposium ticket.
The first day started with Industry meetings in the morning, followed by the Industry Forum and Symposium Day.
Our guest speakers came from opposite sides of he world and production systems; just to name a few Dr David Chapman, a true world expert in feed-base research came from DairyNZ; Dr Edwin Kreykes, a renown veterinarian consultant hailed from Iowa, USA. These international speakers were joined by Australian professionals and top dairy farmers from a range of production systems including pasture-based from Bega Valley and Victoria and TMR from SA and NSW.
Dinner was held at the conclusion of the Symposium in the evening of day one in the auditorium of the Civic Centre, Bega Valley.
Day two moved to Cedar Grove Farm at Angledale, where Ken Kimber and his family showcased their advanced farming practices. Consultants and researchers led interactive Q&A sessions on topics ranging from irrigation to nitrogen to adoption of technologies to milking management.
Our much anticipated annual Emerging Scientists competition was also held at the farm. These future research leaders shared their current research with attending deleates and the winner was chosen by the audience.
